HP Laserjet P1006 di Ubuntu 8.04

Printer keluaran HP memang terkenal cukup bersahabat dengan Linux, tidak terkecuali HP Laserjet P1006 yang baru saja datang ketempat saya beberapa hari yang lalu.

Begitu ditancapkan langsung terdeteksi dan self configure.. Tetapi masalah baru terjadi ketika coba test print. Data yang akan di print terlihat masuk queue kemudian setelah beberapa saat list queue menghilang tetapi printer tetap saja tidak mau bergerak untuk print.

Setelah cukup bingung karena kejadian ini pernah terjadi juga dengan printer Epson CX 5500 dan sampai sekarang tidak bisa diselesaikan masalahnya.

Akhirnya saya dapat juga solusi untuk HP Laserjet P1006 ini dan bisa dibilang hanya satu baris command saja untuk menyelesaikan masalah tersebut 😀

Printer HP Laserjet P1006 ternyata walaupun otomatis terdeteksi oleh Ubuntu 8.04 tetapi masih memerlukan plugin yang harus di download dari internet.

Oleh karena itu setelah anda memasang P1006 ke USB, selanjutnya anda ketikan

sudo hp-setup

Dan untuk selanjutnya anda akan diberi beberapa pertanyaan

Karena saya menggunakan USB untuk menghubungkan laptop dengan P1006 maka saya cukup enter saja untuk selanjutnya dibawa ke menu berikutnya.

Setelah selesai menginstall plugin yang diperlukan selanjutnya anda akan ditanya apakah anda ingin menginstall print queue tambahan untuk printer yang baru saja kita install. Saya jawab no dan selesai lah sudah proses installasi plugin tersebut.
